Hungary was represented at the 2017 Book Fair in a pavilion designed by Paradigma Ariadné architects’ studio commissioned by KKM Balassi Institute. The scheme had to meet some basic requirements: it has to bear references to the oeuvre of Lajos Kassák, an outstanding Hungarian writer, poet and artist, as this year is the 130th anniversary of his birth and the 50th of his death. The architects’ team (Attila Róbert Csóka, Szabolcs Molnár, Dávid Smiló) startedto design by considering these regards. From a functional aspect, this task meant the designing of a spatial system on a 130 m2 floor area, including some conference rooms, a communal zone, as well as ancillary functions. The realized installation was based on a concept inspired by Kassák’s constructivist compositions (so-called image-architectures), that may be interpreted independently because of their abstracted forms – as designers see it – without their original environment as context. In line with the principle thus formulated, the horizontal plan was born as a result of a collage architecture.
