The studio-building by P\u00e9ter Kov\u00e1cs in \u00d6tmalom Street is an intellectual experience projected onto the oldest blocks of the city with its \u201echeeky\u201d positioning. It makes a nest amongst old houses of the middle-class and thus valorizes their massive structures free from tassels and semi-building entrances. Tiled roofs form an almost monotonous fabric which easily and effortlessly adjusts to the white almost monotonous character of the facade roof (rich in tones and colours owing to the shadows and tints cast onto them). Embraced by white surface, the great and yet insignificant grey entrance and door reflect a deliberately neutral design which does not compete with wooden gates in Debrecen whilst referring to the poor qualities of the neighbouring aluminium plated gate by architectural means. This house-sculpture depends on the older houses. It does not turn to them with its firewall, but creates an architectural interplay with a configuration closing up horizontally wedged between the blocks of the old and the new structure. The scaled roof expanses of the neighbouring lots produce an almost musical complex with the brick mosaic of the new fence wall leaving enough room for each old brick.<\/p>\n
