However, the latter were closed down in 1990s. Since then their replacement has always been on the agenda. Finally, in 2015 the idea occurred to have a superstructure float on the water in front of the centre which would perfectly meet the current needs. The basic requirement for the new facility was to contain a store house for boats, changing rooms, and a pier or port to access water to row on. These were then completed with other functions, such as the training centre, and a community and exhibition space. The vessel purchased for the purposes of the remodeling was a 1800 TS barge which in its facelifted form resembles a carefully conceived design object. The staves of the barge grow upward and thus evolve into struts supporting the superstructure. The frames growing out from the bodywork of the ship are set in a row all along the structure, defining closed interior spaces, or external ones, even terraces.
