The guest house in Somoskabin, measuring just 40 m2 floor area, reinforces the minimalist architectural style, but not in an unpleasantly sterile way. Its appearance itself initiates a dialogue, making the observer think about the possibilities of renewing traditions. Set on steel legs, the gabled, prism-shaped structure features few but striking movements. Thanks to its sheltered location on the mountain, undisturbed relaxation is guaranteed. The building\u2019s “clothing” is a combination of natural wood and Shou Sugi Ban burnt wood paneling. In the bright interior, the simplicity of the white walls is pleasantly offset by the well-designed, light turquoise-coloured custom furniture built around the centrally positioned bathroom, which also includes the kitchen with an oven and the shelves in the sleeping area. This functional reduction is the result of a conscious decision; the layout does not strive for more than what is necessary for two people to relax and experience the closeness of nature. The large windows and the terrace provide an unbroken visual and physical connection to the surrounding landscape, allowing visitors to enjoy the views of the castles of Somosk\u0151 and Salg\u00f3. The warmth of the cladding and the compact proportions lend the house a familiar touch, while the gabled roof makes the form easy to understand. These gestures counteract the often alienating nature of minimalism and bring the building closer to those who seek peace and rejuvenation away from their everyday lives.<\/p>\n
