The Reconstruction of the Music Palace in Miskolc
Designed and constructed by Gyula Wälder, the Music Palace of Miskolc was completed within two years (1926–27). However, its reconstruction takes longer as it is delayed by embarrassing complications. The necessity of this project had already been phrased in the 1980s. Designs were made by several well-known architects from Miskolc (Csaba Bodony, Attila Pirity and József Viszlai), but never realized until the proprietary rights of the Music Palace devolved on the University of Miskolc as a result of an exchange of real estates. Built in the historic city centre in the neighbourhood of administrative buildings, the Music Palace represents the University within the city. Its long-awaited reconstruction project was managed by Műépítész Iroda and Hadas Műterem headed by Péter Puskás and MihályRudolf respectively. Our article focusses on the most important issues of the reconstruction design as well as on the obstacles of its execution.
