Return from the Digital to the Analogue
Architecture without Ground-Plans
Text: Bálint Botzheim
Model: András Kapitány
Is it a megastructure growing like a plant? A low-tech skyscraper or a high-tech wetware living creature?
Its scale is difficult to trace, as we do not know where up and down is. With this crystal-like organic creation András Kapitány deliberately returns to the world outside the computer, and is once again in search of the forms and ways of expression of a materiality defined by the laws of physics. He defines himself as an artist studying the architectural forms of the future. His sculpturesque building has a peculiar kind of updateness due to the fact that it tackles the issues of a surface layout generated in irregular structures. Both irregular surfaces and surface layouts are in the focus of digital architectural research, and the approach of the topic by using analogue methods has a result not unlike that of a cold shower.
