Péter Romvári decided to have the shape of a wave as the guiding motif of his design. When I think of water as such I have a material in mind which is highly volatile regarding all its physical qualities as water may be fluid, ice or steam. However, the architectural language chosen for the Water Museum is a weighty one, and it is traditional as far as the technique of its realization is concerned: it is concrete both on the exterior and the interior. This can only be executed by making complex moulds on the spot and casting concrete in situ. This design is based on expertise in the traditional sense of the word. In his diploma work Romvári is in search of new ways but finds out that he sticks to old traditions. Wishing to break away from the rectangularity of the reinterpretation of modernism so popular these days, he wants a more fluid architectural language.
