The Century-Old Hungarian Pavillion in Venice
The Giardini Pubblici in Venice has been hosting international exhibitions of art since 1895. Hungary has participated in these biennales since the very beginning. The permanent home of its exhibitions, the art gallery called the Hungarian House was completed 100 years ago, in 1909. On the centenary a conference titled „The Venice Biennale and the Functioning of Biennales” was held in Budapest on April 16th, organized by the Budapest-based Art Gallery (Műcsarnok) responsible for the realization of exhibitions of fine art and architecture and the Biennálé Office. Lectures, archive photographs and the most recent images shown during the „critical discourse” along with additional materials are also published continuously on the website www.velenceibiennale.com. It is interesting and instructive for historians and builders of the future alike.
