    Toldi Cinema, 5-8 March 2015

    filmnapok

This March we’re bringing you the seventh edition of the Budapest Architecture Film Days. The KÉK – Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Center launched the festival eight years ago to bring the most important questions of contemporary architecture, design and urbanism closer to the wider public – through the medium of film. Since then, we learned that the films we detected or received to our calls have more power than this: they reveal viewpoints, approaches and layers of the built environment that help us looking at the surrounding city in different ways. That help us to perceive the problems and shortcomings of urban life and explore the untapped opportunities of urban space, society and communities.
One of the most important objectives of the festival is to stimulate and empower us to take action for a better urban environment. The festival’s films will focus on forms of communal life and dwelling, collective creative processes done with your own hands, user-generated, adaptable cities and buildings, the heterotopias of our cities materializing in funfairs and theme parks, the infrastructure-monsters of the car-centered urban areas, as well as on the traces of Eastern Europe’s political transformations.
This year’s edition offers some truly spectacular moments. Many of the films will be screened in the presence of their directors, and we’ll host star architects Herman Hertzberger and Isay Weinfeld. Similarly to the previous years, the Film Days won’t be limited to the spaces of Toldi: the closing event of the festival, taking place in Uránia theatre, will present a series of 3-dimensional building portraits, complied by Wim Wenders and directed by Michael Glawogger, Michael Madsen, Robert Redford, Margreth Olin and Karim Aïnouz. After last year’s success, at the festival’s opening night the Chief Architect of Budapest will present a dj set.
