Last year the Schweizerisches Architekturmuseum took the innovative iconic buildings of the past few decades one by one with an astonishing matching. The exhibition titled Re-Sampling Ornament is based on studies that its trustee, Oliver Domeisen had made with the London Architectural Association to examine the presence of ornamentation in contemporary architecture. Although the ideology of modernism strictly rejected the extensive application of ornaments, and theoretical discourses did not tackle the issue for decades later on, the radically new technology of execution and production appearing in the past few decades also paved the way for the economical reapplication of ornamentation.
