Making Use of the Wenckheim Granary in Doboz
MÉSZ-MÉK Diploma Award 2019

Built in 1864, the granary building was designed by Miklós Ybl and stands now near the centre of the settlement. Wheat, corn and rye is typically stored here. In case the crop was wet, they were stored in the drying tower. In here crop was poured from above, and then let out through the ground floor hopper. The crop was moved between the levels within the granary with an electronically operated lift with scales. An important consideration for design was, when selecting the functions, that it should connect Doboz with the circulation of the tourist industry, as well as making the granary known to people by referring to the original uses of the structure.
