The building owes its existence to the Handball European Championship 2022. The economical maintenance and operation of such a large facility, however, necessitates versatile, multi-layered uses. Constructed in this very spirit, the completed building is suited to host almost any kind of indoor event, such as concerts, traditional or extreme sports events, even ice-hockey or water sports, as the dimensions of the arena can be modified, enlargened, and even a mobile pool can be integrated in it. Its basic principle of forms results from the function: the multiple symmetries of the arena and the grand stands. A multi-functional hall is expected to perform a lot today, and MVM Dome perfectly meets a wide variety of needs. The arena is well visible from each point of the stands. The lower stands close to the arena can be entirely pushed back, which can almost double the dimensions of the arena. The roof structure is yet another extraordinary feature: it is a grid plane with a span of more than 100 metres and a media cube set in the middle, which can be pulled up as such to perfectly fit in with the plane. The spatial organisation and configuration of the hall is transparent and unambiguous, which is a must when such a large mass of people is to be moved around. MVM Dome also offers a unique spatial experience to visitors. Supporting pillars leaning outward lend a unique atmosphere to the wraparound spaces and further enhance the dynamics of the space with an arched floor-plan configuration.
