The Memory of Large Fish
Sculpture Installation by the Danube, July-November 2017
Artist: Zsófia Farkas
In March, 2017 the Budapest History Museum and the Budapest Gallery published a tender call for designs of a Danube installation which would adjust to the image of the capital city via unique and exciting visual means whilst drawing visitors’ attention to the river Danube. The aim of this tender was to focus on the roles of works of art surrounding us, as well as on the communal, cultural, integrating and functional potentials of the Danube which defines the individual character of Budapest. The first prize went to Zsófia Farkas sculptor with her design titled The Memory of Large Fish, based on which the composition of sculptures made up of three large pieces was actually built to float on the back of the river right in front of the building of the Budapest Universoity of Technology. This installation commemorates the large fish species that used to live in the Danube by actually evoking them to symbolize the harmony and unity of people and nature.
