Plans for the Museum
In 2012 the Museum of Applied Art published an architectural design tender for the complex reconstruction and value-adding development of the main structure of the museum protected as an historical monument inviting proposals for the renewal of the man-made environment of the institution. The tender description included the development of the site of an unbuilt wing in Hőgyes Endre Street which remained in blueprint with a structure for the purposes of the new Hungarian Design Museum. The first prize of the tender went to Vikár and Lukács Architects’ Studio Ltd., the second prize to the Balázs Mihály Architect Studio, whilst the third prize was shared between the designs submitted by Tamás Lévai and Ágnes Jószai and those by the Építész Studio Ltd.
