In Keszthely, the neighbourhood of the railway station was chosen for this purpose, which seems like a widespread solution. Being subordinated to the railway, coach transport had not possessed a terminal of its own so far: the roofless platforms and the bus terminal itself were just open to the skies for people in a desperate hurry in bad weather to cover the distance between the railway waiting lounge and the coaches just arriving at their stops. As the town is a regional centre, a prioritized issue had to be tackled. The bus terminal completed now is not only meant to meet functional requirements only: it actually defines itself as a unique site and a kind of architectural sign associated with the town. A single architectural gesture came to rule formation: it is the reinterpretation of the platform roof.
