In Ørestad, one of the most dynamically developed outer district of Copenhagen, a large number of buildings built recently by offices of innovative young Danish architects have received most prestigious professional awards. As a result of the latest developments, this district is accessible by the first tube system of the country, making it easier and quicker for people to commute between the residential and office districts. The area has been enriched with the attractive building housing the Ørestad Secondary Grammar School. Built three years ago, it has been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize. This school building is an example of a most lucky meeting of a client and designers, the first being the Danish government and the municipal authority. In co-operation with them the designers – architects from 3XN – reconstructed the long-established views on education and public buildings.
