The Container
Text: Hannes Böhringer
Hannes Böhringer identifies the tub of Diogenes with the container in which everything possible has enough room for themselves as it is empty. Somewhere it empties everything that we load it with; it only stores them temporarily. Modern design tries to put an end to this chaos within the for good and to harmonize the objects in a practical, attractive and functional way to create an elegant harmony among them. The container replaces the temporary and the ultimate as well. The in-between stage, the provisory becomes lasting and even permanent. And what should be lasting turns into an ephemeral event. The insignificant and characterless container contains the very event of modern nihilism.
