A Budapest Citizen in Vienna
Ilona Sármány-Parsons: Art Life in Vienna during the Reign of Franz Joseph as viewed by Lajos Hevesi
Text: György Szegő
The author, Ilona Sármány-Parsons is a widely recognized expert of the history of painting in the era of the dualistic Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, based in Budapest, Vienna and London, and doing research work into the era all over Europe. The present volume was presented by Katalin Bodor art historian and Gábor Gyáni historian on January 26th, 2020 in the minor auditorium in the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Science. The author herself also presented a fascinating, comprehensive introduction into her book, which took almost an hour, and was permeated by Lajos Hevesi’s (Ludwig Hevesi) oeuvre, personality, as well as by her respect and honour to the Gründerzeit, the spirit of the last turn-of-the-century.
