Architectural Atmosperes
Text: Szilárd Suba-Faluvégi
What makes the difference between two buildings with regard to quality? What is high-standard architecture like? Why do we like being in one building, whilst we find another unbearable? These are common questions when we think about architecture. Periods of human history had various answers to them; referring to ornamentation through inauguration and consecration to craftsmanship, the choice is versatile and colourful. We may mean personal, interpersonal atmospheres, cultural, social, family and work place atmospheres, as well as environmental ones. Architectural atmosphere is unique as it relates with several such layers, whether it is immediate man-made environment, society, culture, civilization or even politics. The atmosphere is perception, and whatever I perceive has got atmosphere.
