Solar Decathlon is a series of contests with 10 challenges for university students ambitioning to popularize sustainable architecture and experiments to find new solutions. It was launched by the US governmental office of energetics in 2002. They primarily focussed on detached family houses, and the programme was also a message to would-be users as well as to designing architects. The contest addressed teams of various universities from the very beginning, in which educators and a team of supporters and sponsors teamed up for a contest cooperated to design and construct the prototypal building. This article is a report of the Solar Decathlon Europe contest held in Hungary in 2019 written by one of the participants of the event.
