Changes in the Local Centre System in District XVI Budapest

District No XVI of Budapest was created by uniting four villages, Cinkota, Rákosszentmihály, Sashalom and Mátyásföld, which then had stood at various stages of development because of the historic evolution. Actually, they have preserved their independent identities as of today. After the change of the political system, the district still had the potentials to turn into the garden district of the highest prestige of all the outskirts zones despite its scattered and divided heritage. According to respectable opinions, the secret of this success is the local policy referred to in the slogan here, which is expressed in the strict limitations of the parametres of architectural development in the district whilst facilitating the development of local institutional systems and networks, which practically means the creation of a differentiated centre system. This study examines the historic precedents pf the concept of this local centre system and also surveys the potential directions of the continuation of this development.
