In June 2022, the Moson-Danube Estuary Artifact complex was inaugurated as a monument of great architectural qualities and outstanding significance. It is a good example of how a building can form a compositional unit with its natural surroundings whilst reaching beyond itself. This complex includes the dam, the navigation lock, the fish ladder, the operating building and the bridge, which provides access to the complex from Torda Island. The decision to involve a designer architect was exemplary. As a result, the engineering works, the newly created landscape elements of the facility and the operation building come to work together in visual harmony. The landscape as a medium embraces the structure, and the finely designed environment of the building catalyses the process, providing a transition to nature. A sculptural wall of stones leads to the entrance of the building. The raw, textured surface of reinforced concrete and the rising line of the wall express the building’s connection to nature. The spaces, the cladding and the use of materials reflect the industrial world with a sophisticated appearance. The cantilevered part of the building is dominated by the lattice structure, which lends the space a futuristic effect with its slightly shimmering greyish colour.
