The GREE office building in Szarvas will house an additional branch of the tertiary sector and blend in with the architectural achievements of the Budapest office development previously planned by the firm, whilst not overriding its natural surroundings but blending harmoniously into them. The office building’s original (project) name was a reference to the surrounding marshland cypresses, which had to be preserved. This requirement in itself led to a number of design solutions, such as the pile foundation, the curved eastern façade, which is repeated in the roof and also refers to the river flowing in front of it. The building is all about transparency.
But in this case, transparency does not convey any conceptual meaning, it simply reflects its surroundings: through the curtain walls there is a clear view of the marsh cypresses and through the main entrance to the neighbouring castle. The original plans called for a uniform tiling on the walkway, which almost blurs the boundaries between inside and outside. The office building in Szarvas has evolved into a landmark: a model of transparency and openness, of a dialogue with nature and of small community connections.
