The installation of the new market in Üllő surrounds the block of the town hall in an L-shape, creating a number of unique, characteristic situations. The primary entry opens from the direction of the town hall, the two opening pavilions form a gate. The lattice network connecting the pavilions, which divides the surface of the element that makes the spectacle a gate, runs with an irregular layout, already anticipates much of what will receive the visitor inside. This solution characterizes almost all surfaces of the market. Entering from the right, pavilions lined up, with vendors’ tables between them. Buyers are protected here by a half-saddle roof, the backbone of which is supported by paired girders in the rhythm of the pavilions. The sight of the timber-framed structure already draws the eye, but the peculiar light play of the randomly constructed lattice mesh placed in front of the transparent roof on them makes it stop. It’s almost as if light is filtering through the foliage of huge trees leaning over the boardwalk. At the end of the half-gabled building, the axis of the building breaks at right angles, turning here further enriches the space experience. The spaciousness of the covered-open area consciously offers itself to host larger events after the trade, so the building defines itself not only as a market space, but also as a community space in a broader sense.
