The rather eclectic, winding main street of the historic downtown of Siklós is typically enclosed and relatively narrow in scales and proportions. The town hall, which used to house the district prosecutor’s office, is situated in a corner position in the opening of the square walls, with its tower of a peculiar design. The design of the building was the subject of an invitation to tender, which was not intended to present what the designers considered to be a definitive floor plan. Rather, it was an issue of how the urban and façade would behave. The main character components of the building as we see it today had already been established. The façade structure responds strongly to the articulation of the adjacent building’s façade. Its strength is communicated by the blade-like pillars, the horizontal articulation that appears as a termination of the blades is perhaps an even clearer evocation of the architectural character of the surroundings. This is why it was the right decision to scale back this cantilevered component from the tender design. A striking feature of the taut grey façade is the gateway, with its spacers between white steel elements, which show a subtle rhythm, seeking affinity with the eclectic facades along the main street.
