The comprehensive reconstruction of the Campus of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) has reached its resting point. The large-scale project was launched in the wake of a governmental decree in 2014: a tender was published to invite designs for the new complex which was one by 3h Architects. Construction was started in 2017 after the concept of the winning scheme. Now three new buildings have been completed which are integrated underground: the Knowledge Centre, the old-and-new A building, the new B building and the partly underground MOME Heart centre which is actually the main entrance. Their opening opens a brand new chapter in the life of MOME both architecturally and educationally. Approaching the university from down on Zugligeti Road, the six storey high white-transparent building of the Knowledge Centre welcomes us. It is followed by the main entrance where the gate leads us on underground. After a short section, a light foyer opens up: this is the Heart of MOME. Making a tour of the building in the other direction from the foyer, we arrive at the old educational building on the straight staircase. From here, we can reach the educational storeys via the old stairway or we can take the underground route to get to building B.
