Depth Perception
Korunk 2010/2
Text: György Orbán
Based in Cluj Napoca, this periodical offers wide horizons in its subtitle: Forum – Culture – Science. Its almost exclusively topic-related issue includes a valuable selection of writings on civic design and urbanistics. The theoretical reasoning is followed by analyses concerning us more directly. Mariana Celac describes the Romanian capital as a creation diverting/diverted since its birth from the usual pattern of European urban development regarded as a model. Szabolcs Guttmann focusses on Cluj Napoca, Zoltán Biró A. analyses the possibilities of co-operation between towns/cities and the countryside, with special regard to the conditions of provincial towns in Székely land and their environment in the wider-narrower sense. The article on Disneyland and the utopistic urban square is an elegant way of finishing this precious survey of urbanistics and the history of ideas. Fairly wide spiritual and cultural horizons open up from Cluj Napoca, and readers in Budapest may be glad to get some help from here to maintain their „depth perception”.
