The graphic collection of the Albertina houses an internationally important inventory of Dutch drawings. Its scope and quality make it possible to present Dutch drawing art in all of its thematic, technical and stylistic diversity. A top-class selection of 170 works is presented in the Albertina. Highlights of the exhibition are larger groups of works from Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Maarten van Heemskerck, Hendrick Goltzius, Rembrandt, Anton van Dyck and Peter Paul Rubens.

Last year the Albertina began inviting artists at irregular intervals to take part in interventions in and at the palace. This new series will be continued this year. Anoine Roegiers already dealt with the great masters of Flemish painting and draughtsmanship in his previous works. Since 2011, he has been working on the cycle The Seven Deadly Sins, based on the drawings of the same title by Pieter Bruegel the Elder from 1559. Antoine Roegiers approaches these scenes as if they were a film in which all loactions and plots have been outlined. He consequently reproduces the individual sceneries and characters in ink, using them as models for his video animation. Rogiers’ installation assigns to each of the deadly sins a screen of its own. The happenings described or merely adumbrated in the drawings are contributed in the animation, which extrapolates the narration and sets the scenes in motion. Antoine Roegiers virtually zooms into the drawings, directing our attention to individual episodes and details. He simultaneously enables the spectator to move around amidst the various planes of the landscape.
