Vitra Campus, Schaudepot, 22 February – 19 May 2019

Developed to be almost integrated with Basel in Switzerland, Weil am Rhein in Germany has been made famous by Vitra Design Museum which joins the events of the international Bauhaus 100 by its exhibition presenting the oeuvre of Anton Lorenz designer and entrepreneur (with Susanne Graner as curator). Lorenz played a key role in the development of metal tubular furniture not so much with his own designs as with his patent and licence conracts and the foundation of several companies. As he was amongst the first who realized the potentials in industrial production, but still remained in the background, he is often referred to as a „grey eminence”. His heritage has been treasured in the Museum since 1989, and this is the first time that documents of high importance are on display from this collection.
