Forum for leading architects and entrepreneurs

    Text: Mária Tatai

This year’s international SHARE Forum took place at the Ethnographic Museum in Városliget (City Park) on 14th May. The tightly intensive programme, including 18 presentations in three blocks. The spectacle offered and the message itself was very specific, but also very concentrated, with speakers from many countries presenting projects of varying scale. This year’s focus was partly on urban landscapes and partly on facades. The presentations were divided as to whether the emphasis was on creating a more human, welcoming place (through e.g. shaping the space or ‘greening’) or on making an impression through visual effects (such as mass-formation, facade design).
In any case, no project that is worthwhile is viable without a commitment to (and also accountability for) sustainability and the ambition to reduce the ecological footprint. The conference gave us an insight into the globalist trends in architecture in today’s world, as well as local, individual approaches to finding new ways. This year’s SHARE forum provided striking examples of how, in architecture today, it is once again not a crime for a building to have a strong presence through its forms, or perhaps its novelty and innovative ornamentation, thus enlivening and enriching its environment and context.
