Multifunctional Sport and Events Hall, Hatvan

In 2012 ideas about the future of the rust zone wedged between Óhatvan and Újhatvan as well as about that of the handball pitch planned to be built there started to formulate. Designers from Napur Architect worked out a masterplan for the whole site which was then included in a single grid which embraces the green areas, cultural, sports and commercial functions much like a chess board. As the very first component of this large entity the handball hall was designed. It is joined by century-old industrial buildings next to which the sports facility bearing characteristics of contemporary industrial architecture has been built as a new layer. The tension between the industrial character and the urban situation was resolved by the double-shell design. The thermal skin of the building and the primary structure system have been created like a single hall, with a vivid red colour representing motion, the energies of sports and competitions. As a contrast, the secondary cladding is a system of a pierced frame of closed components. As for the floor-plan, designers have followed a formula of simple functionality. A spacious foyer welcomes visitors with the necessary infrastructure and the vertical passageways on both ends. Service functions are grouped in three large blocks and in the zones on the upper level.
