We have dedicated this compilation of contemporary Hungarian architecture to the work of architect Imre Makovecz, who was born 90 years ago. Makovecz’s environmental approach to architecture and organic thinking are still relevant today all over the world. He was one of those who did the most for local values and the inseparable identity that goes with them. In recent decades, the Hungarian living architecture network led by Makovecz and his circle has emphatically represented local architectural thinking in the face of the soul- and environment-destroying practices of a global world rushing towards its demise, with its program of bringing our cultural past and folk art into the present.
