    In celebration of World Green Building Week and its theme of GET UP GREEN UP, the Hungary Green Building Council is proud to host GREEN RETROFIT – Renovating Buildings for the Future on 24 September 2014 in Budapest. This conference is an annual event supported by the Build2Gether alliance in the Central Eastern European region. Build2Gether provides a platform for small countries to share knowledge and best practices, deliver a wider view on education, and strengthen the actions of the green building movement in the CEE region. Countries participating in this event will be Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Slovenia. This is an international event and will be in English.

    This conference will bring together green building council members and professionals from all around the Build2Gether regional network. It will offer presentations from industry experts as well as high level discussions on the topic of sustainable development and the value of retrofitting existing buildings.

    Keynote speakers for the conference include:

    Dr. Diana Ürge-Vorsatz – Founding member of the HuGBC, Nobel prize recipient and global climate specialist.

    James Drinkwater – Environmental Lawyer and Policy Expert of the World Green Building Council’s European Regional Network.

    Géza Matuz – Production Director of ÉMI Non-Profit Llc. for Quality Control and Innovation in Building to unveil the National Strategy for implemention of the EU Energy Efficiency Directives for existing buildings in Hungary.

    The morning session will include project case studies of successful green retrofits from the region will be presented by several industry experts. In the afternoon, the HuGBC will lead a round-table discussion from participating GBC members to share regional views and the EU perspective. The conference will conclude with a tour of the Eiffel Palace building, a historical building renovation project that received both LEEDv3 NC Gold certification and BREEAM Very Good level certification.
