Design Contest for St George Square and Grand Square, Budapest
The call published by the Prime Minister’s Office and Lechner Information Centre targeted to survey the best possible solutions to utilize and renew the site, that is St George Square and Grand Square located in the Buda Castle district of the Hungarian capital both functionally and spiritually. Criteria for the evaluation of the urbanistic-architectural ideas of the entries submitted for the contest included sustainability and whether the concept can be integrated into the long-term development scheme of the area in the wider context. Besides the aspects of preserving and creating values, function, adjustment to the fabric of the city, spectacles and energy-efficiency were the primary requirements that the concepts had to meet. We are hereby publishing a survey of four of the award-winning entries.
