Lakeside Hotel and Training Hall, Székesfehérvár

The revitalization project of the area where the funfair had been is almost complete now. Not far from the centre of Székesfehérvár, Koronás Park was opened to the public in 2014. This year, in turn, saw the completion of Lakeside Hotel and the basketball training hall here. The disposition of the building is also suggested by the folding shapes of the lot which have been defined by the lakeshore. The lively composition is based on steady interactions: seated fixed, the upper mass of the hotel is playfully embraced by the medical centre. However with a sudden change of directions, the linking wing is continued and the whole development is rounded off by the lower block of the sports hall as a counterpoint. The building of the hotel primarily enters into a dialogue with the multitude of nearby prefab buildings: it is a contemporary transcription which, owing to its playful character, may as well be interpreted as a message meant for the past saying: it may as well have been like this. Clad in simple plasterwork, the facade is able to render this message authentic. The exterior design of the gym hall is a counterpoint of the hotel in itself. The facade wrapped in wooden panels refers more likely to the inner city than to its own local milieu and it also lends the structure the character of a public building of some kind. The facework is made complete with the lively plinth section as runners shall readily take possession of the surfaces prepared for them in the near future.
