Renewal of the Surroundings of Buda Castle

Since the change of the political-economic system the renewal of the surroundings of Buda Castle has been a huge debt of the state. After its original condition had been damaged during World War II, it was remodelled in a way that made the reconstruction of the former historical garden impossible. The design of the stairs, passages, the garden and the slopes of the Castle called for an integral concept. Péter Török landscape architect had the design of the reconstruction of the southern and western gardens of Várkert worked out so that we can see and interpret the subsequent historical periods reveal themselves layer by layer: ranging from the Renaissance art of gardening during the reign of King Matthias through the remains of gardens from the times of the Turkish occupation and gardens of eclectic style to the concept by Miklós Ybl continued by Alajos Hauszmann – and all this is orchestrated by means of contemporary landscape architecture.
