8th Budapest Architecture Film Days
3-6 March 2016
Text: Anna Zöldi
Organized for the 8th time this year, the days of films on architecture has been true to its original mission again. Evolving into the most prestigious event of the region, this survey of films does not only evoke architecture as clad in an artistic kimono or a majestic robe, but in an everyday attire, like a housecoat or an ironed suit if the situation, the occasion and interests involved would require. The festival focussed on urban spaces as its prioritized topic, ranging from the contradictory design contest of the Berlin-based Alexanderplatz through the remodelling of Széll Kálmán Square to the films chosen from the archives of Lechner information centre presenting Socialist city centres. The presence of Hungarian materials is an agreeable tendency, which may also indicate that enjoyable documentary films are being shot on this topic also in Hungary – the films shown at the festival are only a careful selection.
