2nd International Conference of the VEAB Working Committee on Vernacular Architecture

    Text: Dénes Nagy

The VEAB Working Committee on Folk Architecture was founded in 2011. The Hungarian Academy of Science (MTA) established Regional Academic Committees in Debrecen, Miskolc, Pécs, Szeged and Veszprém, and then expanded them to include Cluj-Napoca. Shortly after its creation, in 2012, the working committee organised an international conference, and every year in July, in association with the Valley of Arts (Művészetek völgye) programme, it organises a meeting in Taliándörögd. Its second major conference was held in the summer of 2023, in partnership with the Symmetry Foundation. The Hungarian Academy of Arts’ Research Institute for Art Theory and Methodology (MMA MMKI) joined the organisation, one of the first events organised jointly by the two academies. The programme was launched with a pre-conference in Budapest and continued in Walter Rózsi Villa, part of the MMA Hungarian Architecture Museum and Documentation Centre for Historic Monuments in Veszprém.
